It's difficult to imagine an effectively differentiated classroom that at some point doesn't include tiered assignments. Because they address the multiple ability levels that students bring to all content areas, tiered assignments are the "go to" strategy for teachers trying to meet the needs of their learners.
This workshop will highlight the need for tiered assignments and the steps and "useful tools" involved in creating them. A variety of examples will be shared and discussed, and participants will:
- Practice creating tiered assignments
- Learn management strategies to make this strategy work in their classrooms
- Leave this workshop empowered to create and use tiered assignments in a variety of ways in their classrooms
Who should attend? This workshop is recommended for teachers in grades K-5.
About the Presenter:
Caroline Eidson has co-authored four books about curriculum differentiation and speaks regularly on the topic. She earned her doctorate at the University of Virginia, has taught and administrated in public and private schools for over 13 years, and currently teaches courses at Duke University. Caroline co-founded a school for gifted learners, led another school’s accreditation efforts, and has served on school evaluation teams. Her other staff development expertise includes curriculum development, classroom management, concept-based teaching, and educating gifted learners. Caroline is also the author of many publications and authored the book,
Differentiation in Practice: A resource guide for differentiating curriculum.
